Firewire Enclosure w/o the Oxford Chip?

I'm looking to get a Adaptec USB2/Firewire Enclosure from Best Buy. It's $51. I like the size, and it looks alot like one of my Maxtor aluminum externals.

I'm not seeing any info about a Oxford chip on the Adaptec. I have 2 ADS enclosures with the Oxford chip. They're still working after at least 2 years of service. I figure with a name brand, (Adaptec) it should be ok to get the new one. Any thoughts?

The Prolific firewire chipset on a lot of models is buggy in my experience. It will need to be flashed with the latest firmware, otherwise you eventually won't be able to access your data / will get delayed write failures (can't write data to the drive... when this happens when writing to the MFT, it gets corrupted and you can't read without software drive recovery).

Even after flashing, the device doesn't play well with other firewire devices on the same bus.
