Firewire (or DV) card for ADVC-100?

I just ordered a Canopus ADVC-100 for importing footage digitally with my Sony Hi-8. As I understand it, I hook this into a IEEE-1394 (firewire port) on my PC (which I don't have yet). My question is: do I need just a IEEE-1394 port card (6-pin or 4-pin) or do I need a IEEE-1394 DV card (emphasis on DV). I don't have a digital camcorder so the DV part seems superflous. Am I right? I know I won't have deck control with this set-up. (Is that what all the DV cards offer in conjunction with Video Capture.

Thanks for your feedback.

DV flows through standard firewire (1394), so there's no reason to look for one made specifically for DV. However, make sure the card you get is OHCI compliant. Most generic brands are fine. I paid about $29 for one with a Lucent Technologies chip and it works perfectly with both my DV camcorder and an external converter box.
