Firewire & Vegas 11

While I'm waiting, (tapping toes for a couple days now), till I hear back from support, does anyone have a suggestion on how to force Vegas to recognize my 1394 OHCI host card for downloading video to Vegas 11? For some reason V11 will not recognize the connection. The camera connects, and another software product will shuttle the video and import. The support people at Microsoft had me install one of their utilities to test the connection, and it sees the card and the camera. But when running Vegas 11 and trying to import the program just flat out doesn't see the card or camera. Vegas 10 had no issue, but it's something unique to V11. Any thoughts would be welcomed as I have clients bugging me for their projects to be completed.

If you can capture & PTT in Vegas 10 there is nothing wrong with your hardware. Capture via VP10 and work in 10, otherwise capture in 10 and import clips into 11.

There has been a problem with PTT(HDV) in 11 but this was cleared in the latest update (594/595).

HDVSplit (google, free) is a better capture facility than Vegas as the clips do not need trimming before use.

Get schooled on the use of "legacy" driver...it has been discussed many times in this forum...inlcuding just a few posts ago....

I'm going to File/Capture Video/DV and I would have the ability to capture from there. Now it grayed out.

@videoITguy: Could you be helpful an point out where to look for this?

Works in latest version of VP11 594/595. Have actually tested this after waiting some 3 months for the fix.

Other possibility: Change firewire driver to 'legacy'
•Go to Device Manager and click on IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers
•Click on the device listed underneath this heading. In my case it was NEC 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller
•Right click this device and select 'update driver software' from the shortcut menu
•Then select the option 'browse my computer for driver software'
•Then select the option 'let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'
•This then gave me three drivers to pick from (make sure the'show compatible hardware' checkbox is ticked
•Select the driver named '1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)'
•Install driver.

I ran into this problem some 2 years ago (early W7). Could capture from HDV tape, but not print to tape. Above fix cleared matters

Controls greyed out.

Try Options->prefs(with shift key down)
You will get an extra tab 'internals'
Search box: Showonly prefs****** ; enter capture.
Ask about capture app= TRUE
Ext VidCap Use**** =True

I think you can also reset matters via Prefs Video 'Use external capture app' check box should be checked. If it is uncheck, apply and close Vegas. Reopen Vegas go to Prefs Video, recheck box and apply.
The application should read C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Vegas Pro 11.0\VidCap60.EXE

Best of luck
