First Attempt To Render A Project

I have put together my first project in VMS 10 HD Platinum Suite and am ready to render the project.

I am not sure how best to proceed with the rendering process. When I click the Make Movie icon, I am presented with several options, two of which are "Save To Hard Drive" and "Burn To DVD". I ultimately want to make a DVD so that I can distribute the movie to family members, but shouldn't I also save a copy to my hard drive?

Also, I am not sure how DVD Architect Studio 5.0 fits into this process. Is it integrated into VMS 10 HD Platinum Suite and automatically activated if I want to burn a DVD? Or, do I save my movie project to the hard drive, then open DVD AS 5.0 and initiate the CD burning process?

I am also afraid that I will be presented with options as to what file format to render the movie to. I don't have any idea what file format to select if I am presented with that question.

Thanks for any advice.

DVDs are always MPEG2 video and the normal choice for audio is AC3. I'm not fond of the "make movie" icon as it's pretty much a "dummy" button that gives you very few choices, most of which are probably not the best options. Use File / Render As and render twice, once to MPEG2 using the DVD Architect template and once again as AC3 using the Stereo DVD template. Use the same filename for both. This will create a .mpg and a .ac3 file on your hard drive.

DVD Architect is used to lay out the DVD prepare the .VOB files, and burn the finished disc. In DVD Architect you can drag the .mpg file into the workspace to create a simple "play movie" button. You can also add chapters and menus if you wish, but start simple to begin with. After this there is a Prepare step which creates the .VOB and other files necessary for the DVD format, and a Burn step which writes them to a DVD blank.

Chienworks,

Thanks for the response.

In VMS 10 HD, when I select "File/Render As", I see the mpeg-2 and AC3 file formats as options. However, under the Template menu, I do not see "DVD Architect" or the "Stereo DVD" options.

Have I mis-interpreted something?
