First Play Video Option

Does anyone know how to activate the First Play Feature on DVD Architect? the instructions in the help files indicate vaguely how to do this, but it does NOT work, everytime I indicate a video clip as first play, the drop down list for video file formats does not have any other file extension except ".dar" and there are no files to choose from. can anyone tell me how this works? as usual, the sony help files are very unclear. I am using Ulead Video Studio 7 and they have First PLay and make it VERY EASY, but i would rather use DVD Architect...

many thanks,

JIm

What version are you using, and what steps are you taking?

If you're using DVDA 2, you have a couple ways you can add an Introduction Media (this is what DVDA calls the first play video):

1. Go to the Project Overview window and click the Insert Introduction Media button (it's a green plus sign next to a white start in a purple square). You then get an Insert Media dialog box for all media types. For me, DAR isn't even an option (since it's not a media type).

2. From the Explorer window (in DVDA) drag a file that you want to use into the Project Overview window and drop it onto the root level (the disc icon). Select the item there in the Project Overview window and click the Set DVD Start button (big white star in a purple square).

3. Follow the first step of Option 2 above, but instead right-click on the item and choose Set DVD Start from the context menu.

If you're using DVDA 1 instead of DVDA 2, then go to File -> Properties and use the General tab to set your Introductory Media.

If you're already using one of these methods, and you're unable to choose any files other than DAR (which shouldn't even be showing up at all), something's screwy. I personally have never heard of anyone having the problem you describe.

How do you do this with separate audio/video files?

Thanks!

DVDA 1.0: The Project Properties dialog box (File -> Properties) has a space for the name of the video file and a space for the name of the audio file.

DVDA 2.0: The Introduction Media is edited pretty much the same way as any other video in your project. Double-click an item in the Project Overview window, and the video (whether it's an Introduction Media, a menu, or a regular video) will open in the timeline. Once any video is displayed in the timeline, you can edit its properties in the Properties window. The Properties window has one entry for the video and one for the audio.

You can also go to the timeline, delete the current audio (if any) and drag a new audio file to it.
