First time trimmer use question

Lili wrote on 3/10/2006, 9:43 AM
I'm used to editing directly on the timeline, but today I dropped a voiceover track into the trimmer to remove some "ums" and "ahhs" in between the speaker's words. I don't have an audio editor.

When I tried to either select or to split the frames that I wanted to remove, and then hit the "delete" key or the "s" key, nothing happened. What should I do to be able to edit from the trimmer?
Using V5.

Much thanks.

The Trimmer is for selecting slices of media to be added to the timeline.

What you are doing would best be accomplished on the timeline itself where there are more choices for precise editing (e.g. trimming with the numeric keypad).

In actual fact, you do have an audio editor already installed on your computer. I'm sure you can find it. Look under All Programs / Sony / Vegas 5. :)

Kelly, you're too funny :-)
But you are correct. I'm just finishing up a Math Essentails video and had to do what oops is trying to do numerous times. Most of the time, I'd simply replace the old with the new via cut/paste. Other times, I'd add it as a new track and use a volume envelope to drop the old clip out. Very easily done in Vegas.

Would you believe I just recently got a new super-duper Vegas keyboard witht the pink numeric keypad and "trim" events icons on the keys staring me in the face, but I totally forgot this feature until your post?!

The Vegas forum is the best! Thanks for all replies :-)
