Fisheye lens attachment for Sony HDR cx900

Hello friends:
I was just stopping by to see if anyone using a Sony HDR cx900 has ever use the available ( Hi Def Super Wide Pro Fisheye Lens for Sony HDR-CX900 FDR-AX100).. And if so, how is it working out? I believe it comes with the ring and the macro and such but I'm not sure what effect other than "FishEye Wide" it will have on this camera's amazing image.
I want to mount alongside a river barge with a wrap-around visual instead of straight forward.
Any advice will be appreciated.

It seems no one is using it :(

It might help if you provided a link to the lens you're talking about. In general fisheye lenses come in two versions, ones that are true 180deg fisheyes that give you only a circle of image in the middle of the frame and ones that are just uber wide angle lenses with lots of barrel distortion. Both have a very deep DOF.

The only issue I can see with using either is I wouldn't trust the camera's auto-exposure system to get it right.

In my limited experience, any supplemental lens for less than $500 is unlikely to prove very satisfactory unless you have extremely low requirements. These types of lens were not useful back in VHS days, and I would suspect they would be deadly to an HD image.

Just my opinion, YMMV.

Jillian-
I should be ashamed of myself for even considering this downgrade of a very good HD producing camera.. After all we get what we pay for.
Very wise reply.. Thank you for slapping me back in to reality.
