FIXED File I/O manager error (not what you think)

XMBOTX wrote on 1/6/2015, 11:54 PM
I know the regular fix for the problem is to open task manager and stop the I/O process but, when ever I do that I get the message saying "Movie Studio has stopped working, do you wish to send an error report?(which I have)" this closes the program hence repeating the broken I/O process. Is un and re installing the only solution or is there something else I can do? Any feed back would be great, thanks!

Your description is too general to provide any clues. Sony tech support is reached through the links at the top of the page.

Maybe these pictures will help?

Once the problem report comes up it closes Movie Studio, and it gets stuck at the IO manager again.

FileIOSurrogate is the QuickTime loader.

System specs?
Vegas version?
QuickTime version?

Try 7.7.4 or 7.7.1
Both have been reported to run fairly stable with Vegas 12.

"FileIOSurrogate is the QuickTime loader."

Really? It's only for QuickTime? I think the last time i did a project that used QuickTime either in or out was about a decade ago, and i don't foresee myself using it anytime in the next decade either. Is there any way we can make Vegas *NOT* launch it?

I remember when FileIOSurrogate first reared up it's ugly head in Vegas 9 and it was giving me all kinds of hangs and other issues. I discovered that while killing the process after Vegas was running also killed Vegas, many times i was able to kill it while Vegas was still launching, and then all was happy with Vegas running fine without it. Sadly, somewhere around 9.0c this stopped working, and Vegas would no longer finish launching if FileIOSurrogate was killed.

If I was still not making sense to anyone this is what I was trying to say, but it's happening on Movie Studio 12.

I'm currently trying 7.7.1 to see if that will help.

So while uninstalling 7.7.6 Quick time had to shutdown all of it's process so when it came across the IO error it asked if I wanted to terminate it and I gladly said yes. Once that was terminated I canceled the installation and tried opening Movie studio 12 and It worked!

I know this wasn't directly what you were suggesting as a fix but it seems that it was a solution. Thank you!

QuickTime is required to open MOV, TIFF, and a couple of MP4 file types in Vegas.
