Fixing Out Of Focus Blobs

I've got two shots with two problems: in one, it looks like a speck of dirt fell on the CCD chip, causing an out of focus darker area. In another, I shot out of the window of a plane, and it had dirt on the window (now also out of focus).

Any ideas from the video experts on ways these can be minimized? (no way to reshoot 'em.) Maybe multiple layers, or something??

Thanks!

On both accounts not a prayer really, sorry.

I'd say in both cases you've lost so much that you'll never find enough to patch it back. One dead pixel for example you might be able to fix, a whole bunch being blocked out by crud, I doubt.

If it's out of focus that much, i.e. the camera was focus on the glass, even less of a chance

Not that it helps but if you are scanning the subjects in these threads really fast your header could be mis-read....and more than one person here would understand how a set of blobs were out of focus and suggest many ways to keep those blobs in better focus next time.

I am too silly tonight. Gotta keep away from the egg nog.

In a more serious light - I just read something in a mag about software that fixes and corrects out of focus material. I think it was the January 2004 issue of Studio Photography and Design? And I tossed out the magazine yesterday so I can't go back and re-read it.

filmy,
must be cold where you are, down here it's sure not egg nog time.

I really cannot imagine how you'd go about fixing out of focus stuff, seems to defy the laws of physics to me. If it was slightly out maybe but in this case where the cameras focus on something less than a metre away and it should have been at infinity well... Also it's not just going to be out of focus, the windows on planes are always covered in dirt and the refracted light even when the focus is good makes the shot pretty washed out unless you've got a lens hood right up against the glass.
