Flakey WMV render from V5

I hope I can explain this so that it makes sense ;-)

I have a 5500 frame sequence that I rendered out from Lightwave as 500 X 352, 32bit PNG's. I imported them into V5 along with a few static images the same image size. The sequence ended up getting split into multiple clips on the timeline so I could insert the static's into the project. There are approximattely 20 cuts in the completed project and it plays just fine on the timeline.

The problem pops up when exported to a WMV. Within a few frames of each clip transition (they are cuts) I get a flash frame of the next clip a couple of frames before the each cut. It seems kinda random, but affects at least 90% of the cuts.

The strange part is that I opened VV3 and re-created the project exactly as in V5 and it works just fine on the WMV export. In fact, if I open the VV3 project in V5 and export it, the resulting file looks great. It's the project file I edited using VV5 that is giving me the problems.

Anybody have any issues with this sort of thing using V5?

Thanks.

I believe JohnnyMeyer has being dealing with the same issue. first, try expanding the timelime where you can see individual frames,(I like frame nu display), inspect cut / split area for partial frame. delete partial frames or segments. try rendering again .

Thanks for the reply.

Snap to grid and markers are turned off on my copy of V5. I also zoomed into single frames and couldn't find any gaps or overlaps.

It has something to do with editing the project in V5, because the same project edited in VV3 and loaded into V5 works great, but as soon as I move the clips around in V5 the problem pops back up again.

I did find something that will work. I selected the clips that I had split from the original long rendered LW sequence and made sub-clips from them from the timeline. I then deleted the originals from the timeline and replaced them with the sub-clips from the media library and bingo -- I get a decent export.

So, I guess the solution is to not split up clips on the timeline, but instead use the trimmer or generate sub-clips from the timeline and use them.

1. Do you import them as a sequence rather than 5500 separate frames?
2. Have you tried zero-ing the Dynamic RAM preview in Options/Preferences/Video Tab?
3. Have you tried to reboot and then go directly to Vegas and render?
4. Do you have quantize to frames turned on?

I suspect there's something fishy about the RAM use/cache memory flush. I've seen a bunch of semi-related questions in this forum lately. A pattern is forming before our very eyes...

"1. Do you import them as a sequence rather than 5500 separate frames?"

As a sequence

"2. Have you tried zero-ing the Dynamic RAM preview in Options/Preferences/Video Tab?"

Nope. I'll give it a shot

"3. Have you tried to reboot and then go directly to Vegas and render?"

Yep. One of the first things I tried ;-)

"4. Do you have quantize to frames turned on?"

Yep. I guess it's turned on by default. From reading the description, I assume it should be turned off?

Thanks for the suggestions!
