Flash overlays...

I've just made my first project using SWF files overlaid onto video for titles.

Has anyone else used this (in place of Vegas' builtin titler)? If so, what did you use to generate the SWF?

At the moment I'm using Swish2 (Demo) but would like the ability to use a gradient fill, drop shadow and a stroke of some kind on the text. I'm not sure if Swish can do this -- anyone got any suggestions?

Can provide a sample of the project upon request for examples :)

You can stroke/shadow in Vegas, use the track motion tool for this. regarding gradients....I don't know how you might do this in Swish, I'm a basic swish user...mostly just use the presets in there.
You COULD always color the Swish letters in white, use them as a mask, and fill them with a gradient via the mask in Vegas.

I didn't realise I could stroke/shadow with track motion.

Is that per-track or per-event?

I'll probably end up buying Swish, just not sure which version to buy at the moment... I'm a basic user too, just put the text in the right place, apply an effect and export it...

I use SWISHmax when I need motion titles that would otherwise take a lot of keyframing in Vegas. I don’t know of any way to do gradient text in Swish. If I need gradient titles I use Boris Graffiti LTD that comes with Vegas 5. It has a lot of nice gradient styles with bevels and borders and metallic looks built right in. It also does motion too.

I was trying to avoid digging into Boris, lol

I'll check it out though. Thanks :)

I have a really basic Boris tutorial on my web site to get you started. It’s nothing elaborate but it shows you how to go round trip from Boris back to Vegas for static TGA titles and AVI motion titles. I'll try and add more as I get time.

john, could you please email me - jason.m@whytehouseproductions.com - and i'll show you the effect I'm trying to achieve ... it's working well with Swish, I'm hoping I don't have to go to the render-separately-and-import methodology to get slightly more complicated lettering...
