Does anyone know the set of rules for importing Flash SWF to Vegas 6 projects?
1) Versions of Flash SWF okay to import (Player 4, 5, 6...)?
2) Compression still off I'm guessing?
3) Import more than just text with Vegas 6?
4) Audio included now?
5) Any other conditions?
Version 4 only. The metadata in V5 and newer can't be read by Vegas.
Text/graphics can be imported. Audio if it's MP3 AFAIK. I don't do audio in my swish files, so I'm not certain.
Interesting perspective on backward compatible, but it worked - mostly.
I published SWF for Flash Player version 4, and it imported great into Vegas 6. The SWF has text and images with lots of tweening... both imported well.
The audio did not import. The SWF has MP3 audio, and publishes that way, but I'm not sure about the AFAIK thing.
Thanks for advise. I was confused on version; thinking people meant I needed Flash version 4, where I really needed to publish SWF with Flash Player 4 setting.
Oddly enough after all this, It works just as well for me to just do the animation (tweening things and using animated GIFs) with Vegas... other than I like the smaller SWF file occassionally.
Hello. I'm not very familiar with metadata but I use swishmax and was able to import a swf file into vegas 6 with motion tweens and effects, no audio though. One thing is that all export options we UNCHECKED and that allowed me to import to vegas. I tested this theory by checking just one of those tick boxex, and sure enough, no import. I guess those options make the difference between flash V4,5 and 6 , though it's not evident in swishmax, especially from swf 4 to 5, 6 gives the option of compression.
I just installed Vegas 6 yesterday and I have been playing around with After Effects 6.5 demo. They have a ton of text effects that you drag and drop onto your text and instant effects are created. Like text raining on one character at a time or even some random stuff like the Matrix. Anyway I used the export to SWF in AE and just did the default and then opened this in Vegas 6. Voila! Instant text effects. It automatically detected the transparency of the background so it was ready to go in Vegas. I have tried Swish before and had success getting it into Vegas 5. I thought it was actually Flash version 5 without any action scipt or interactivity that was compatible. This workflow from AE to Vegas using SWF was painless and I am sure my kids could do it after watching me once. The only painful part is the cost of AE. Swishmax is $99 bucks I think AE 6.5 Pro is quite a lot. But you can play with it for 30 days for free.
