Jsan,

Vegas Video supports QUICKTIME MOVIES (*.mov), not
SHOCKWAVE FLASH MOVIES (*.mov). There is a huge difference
between the two. Quicktime is a digital video codec.
Shockwave is animation format that has little to nothing to
do with digital video. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Nick,
Thank you for a routine lesson in the obvious! I am well
aware that SWF is animation and QT is a codec. I'm almost
offended. :) But you will find that QT Pro can
include/convert an SWF into a .Mov. There is a "flash"
track in QT movies. So theoretically, if QT can include or
convert (however you wish to see it) an SWF, then I would
guess that there's some way of porting that MOV over to be
used within Vegas - thereby allowing you to composite what
was originally created in Flash, just the same as you would
do with a GIF or JPEG created in a graphics program.

So keeping in mind that I know about the differences and
have done my homework - am I missing something? To all the
VV experts out there - is this possible, and if so, what
are the specific preferences/settings,etc you need to use
in QT Pro when converting??

Thanks!

Jamie,

Sorry, misunderstood your question. Someone asked the same
thing a few weeks ago and didn't understand the difference,
so I thought I'd just point that out in case you were
employing the same line of thinking. Good luck to you all
the same.

Vegas does not open Flash-anything at this time.

*sigh*

Is that, per chance, in the works for the next release of
VV? Just curious.

The feature set for Vegas 3.0 has not been established yet,
and the new version is still pretty far off. Please check
the website periodically for the latest info.

I tried this line a month or so ago jamie with little success. Still haven't found a way around it. Can convert swf into executable into screensavers can use programs that will break down the swf into individual pieces but have yet to come across something that will convert into a format that vegas will recognize. Beginning to think that will never happen since then Sonic will have to pay royalties to macromedia for every program they sell.

Okay - time to revisit this! I haven't yet upgraded to VV3. Although it isn't listed in the new feature list -is it by chance supported? Is there a way to import SWF into VV3? Convert SWF to MOV with QT Pro first and import? Can't do it with VV2!

I just export the .swf file as an .avi and use that. It works pretty well and it's usful, for me, for doing fancier 3D titling.

On a side note, SF will NEVER have to pay royalties for using .SWF since Macromedia has made this and open file format. Now, if they were to include .FLA files then there would be problems, but there are many companies using .SWF in their software bundles...

What can be used to rasterize an .SWF into an AVI?
Cheesehole wrote on 1/15/2002, 3:55 PM
it's called Vegas VIDEO not Vegas VECTORS, but it does have a nice ring to it.

they have to draw the line somewhere... SWF isn't even on the same PLANET as video. you'll have to find a way to record the flash movie as a sequence of bitmaps (rasterize), then you can import the sequence into VV3 as a video. or find a way to render the SWF as an AVI using another program.

I've never used Macromedia's Flash generation tool (mostly because i
can't afford it!), but i am using a similar product called SWiSH
www.swishzone.com
This software is dirt cheap ($49.95) and creates .SWF animations. It
doesn't support vector graphics yet, but they promise that soon. It does
do just about everything else that Flash is capable of though. And best
of all, it exports to .AVI files which can be opened in Vegas.

It might be worth your while to download the 15 free trial and see if it
will open up your Flash source files. If it does, that might be an easy
answer.

Ok the issue is what do you need the output for. You can output from flash to JPG,GIF, etc. This forces Flash to output to any of those files, once you have output the files, you can bring them in into VV3. I work with this before and many of the effects can be done in VV3. But when there are times that you need 3D or some other file you get of the net, output to jpg or any graphics file supported by VV3.

ups sorry, IF YOU DON'T KNOW dont be rude JUST say "i dont know".

He wanted to know how to bring flash animations in to VV3.
