Flickering Watermark

Trizity wrote on 6/1/2014, 2:18 PM
I place a still image in one corner of my video as a watermark/identifier.

I've recently noticed that in the final rendered version that this watermark flickers, seemingly at random intervals. I don't see it in the preview window. You can see it in this video

at approx :38 seconds. The image that flickers is a .png and is placed in track 1. Any ideas are always appreciated.

Looks like you might have a gap on the timeline. Zoom in all the way to make sure there is not a gap.

That was my first though as well. The watermark is continuous in the timeline.

Did the size change?

Turbulence.
Is it this way on your PC watching with something like VLC? If not, then the problem is in YouTube's encoders.

The size is constant through the video. I rendered another video, and it also exhibits the flicker right about 40 seconds. Makes me think something in the setup or OS related.

I do have the same behavior watching the clip on the PC, so it's not YouTube...

Update - I did move the watermark to other tracks and still the flicker. After rendering in several different formats to see if any changes occurred, I turned off all GPU use in the preferences, and, no more flickering. Very odd behavior, only seen with that particular .png file. ...hmmmm.

GPU rendering in Vegas seems quirky for some. I stopped using it because of those types of issues.

On mp4 formats you can render without the GPU as an option even if is enabled in the preferences. This seemed like it might be useful in that it would let you accelerate previews without affecting render quality. Unfortunately I see render weirdness even with the GPU turned of in the render dialog but on in the preferences. I also get occasional black frames with the GPU on in the preferences even when it is off in the render dialog. Fortunately CPU previews and renders are very nice.
