Flip horizontal Fx and Stretch to fit?

I want to flip my clip horizontally. Unfortunately it has a lower third, with text that becomes reversed text when flipped. My solution was to duplicate the clip onto track 1 above the clip. Then crop the reversed video eliminating the reversed lower third, and show the correct text from the lower track 2.
I unchecked 'Maintain aspect ratio' and 'Stretch to fit', both read 'No' in the FX window. Curiously, the Flip will only show itself flipped on the preview monitor, ( Split Screen button is off) when stretch to fit is checked 'Yes', but then the lower third becomes covered by the 'stretched to fit' video without the lower third displayed.
I've also right clicked the FX window and checked and unchecked the 'Match output' and 'Source', 'Aspect' without helping.
Any ideas what I'm missing or doing wrong? Thanks for your help. John.

A workaround.
Use Track motion and 3D Source alpha to rotate the clip 180 degrees on the Y axis.
Render to new track.
Bring to TL and then adjust with Pan/Crop to crop the offending reverse text and allow the correct text to show through, after cropping, from Track 2. Click to "No' both 'Maintain aspect Ratio' and 'Stretch to Fit' in Fx window.
Seems cumbersome.
Any idea why flip and "Stretch to Fit' do not work together. Thanks, John.

J Mac,

I would just use the Flip Horiz in Pan Crop and then lay a new lower third graphic on a new track above it to cover the old one that is now showing up backwards.

GG, Thanks for the suggestion, but it a clients video. I'm just repairing some context mistakes, adding more footage, and updating. John.
