Flip Mino (non HD) and Vegas Movie Studio

I'm trying to edit footage from my Flip camera (avi, XVID) and it works great for importing and editing, but when I render it (no matter what file type) the only thing that shows up are the titles and audio. The video is black.

After some searching, I saw that Vegas has issues with XVID... but then why does it import and play WITHIN Vegas with no problem? Doesn't make sense.

Am I doing something wrong, or do I just need to accept that I have to reencode the video before editing it?

Terry72...

Sounds like a codec issue. You didn't say to which format you rendered. Perhaps you lack a codec for the rendered file type.

Thanks for the reply!
I've tried to render it as many different formats... avi (NTSC DV, XVID, DIVX), Mpeg 1 and 2, Quicktime. The reencoded, uncompressed video works fine for all these, just not the original video taken from the Flip camera.

The original video (running it through GSpot) is XVID MP4, and I've got the XVID codec installed. And it plays fine in Media Player, and even within Vegas itself. It just won't render.

One more thing I just noticed, I CAN render the file if I set the Video Rendering Quality to "Preview" or "Draft".
