Floating Dust Particles

What do I need to use (software-wise) to make dust particles that float, in focus, in the foreground while my background is out of focus. I have a shot that I think I would like to use this for, but don't really know where to start.

It would seem that if I could get about 10 dust particles with alpha channel backgrounds I could then import them in- give them independent actions, hang them where needed, duplicate some and then put them in a parent child relationship and make them float across the screen. If that can work, I would just be short on getting the dust particles with alpha channel backgrounds.

Geez, just shoot in my living room with the sun streaming through the window. Who needs FX anyway?

Actually I would record in sunlight dust in front of black foam core and
use compositing mode add.

Particle Illusion has a free trial.

PI 3 is a great option

Thanks for the PI recommendation. I wish B&H was selling it as I have some gift cards but it looks like I will have to use those for something else.
