Does anyone have any other examples of this? I'd really like to do something like this for a family movie and I'm looking for some good examples. I'm envisioning a shot of a desk or table with pictures falling from off camera and landing all over the table....some even sliding off.

There is a program called 3d album that does things like this- but unless you are a programmer, you are stuck with there templates. There are a lot of them and you can purchase more and others are free, but the user interface is HORRIBLE! I bought it b/c I thought it looked simple enough (saw it in a magazine) but now I will never buy software without trying it out first. You can output ot avi dv, screensaver, interactive exe files amongst others. It is neat, but just not put together very well in my opinion.
