It does multiple types of conversions and it probably does take somewhat of a hit in quality, but I've never converted Flash to avi.
Edit: Oh yeah, you have to go thru a maze of pages to find it at the site, don't get side tracked.

If you are not totally hung up about free, you definitely should try:

Total Video Converter

You can try before you buy. Works awfully well and does many, many other conversions as well, including excellent "anything to iPod" conversions.

John, Total Video Converter looks like just the thing, especially as it will convert so many formats. It should pay for itself many times over.

Also have a look at mplayer. Open source, free, and does a whole swag of format conversions, though not all of them both ways.

Also, because it runs on the command-line, you can script it to do batch conversions.

Worth look (i think there are also GUI's available to interact with it too)
