Font Style Choices

Just a quick post here. I'm fiddling with the demo version of Vegas, more than likely going to purchase. I'm currently a big TitleDeko fan. It came bundled with my Premiere, and also with my Pinnacle Studio that was standard on the HP. I like the silver-looking fonts (or chrome-like), something different than just a plain straight color. I'm not seeing any settings on VV3 that allow for a gradient on a font. Is there better stuff in a registered version of Vegas, or I'm I not doing something right? Just Curious

Hi Dirk,

Your premier version of TD may run standalone... browse to the Premier folder or a title Deko folder and see if you can launch the exe. You should be able to compose and save titles as .tga files that Vegas will handle w/alpha.

You won't have preview over video, and you may have to resize to 655x480, but they do work... I use TD for web titles too. (my macro tutorial has some, including that brushed-metal style. :) )

That is one thing I REALLY liked about Pinnacle Studio. But that version of TitleDeko is not portable. You can create a clip, render it, and then bring it into VV as a new clip.

I believe that someone on this forum just mentioned that the version with Premier is a stand along version. If so, then you can create your clips directly, store them, bring them into VV as a new clip. Much like from Studio.

It is also available as a stand alone separate from Premier, but it is expensive.

That, by the way, is the ONLY use I still have for Studio. Titles with three 3D and metalic looks.

Thanks Martyh and Wcoxe1.

I hadn't messed with targa files before, but it worked like a charm. Even added motion and everything, keyed over video. The TD with Premiere let me save to a tga file, but not the Pinnacle Studio version. Now that I know I can do this, I will definately get VV3. I imagine Vegas Video 4 will have a better choice of font textures. Thanks again.

I HOPE that they have more interesting font selections, textures, etc., a la TitleDeko, but I wouldn't count on it. Everyone seems very impressed with what they already have, from what I can see. Can't say I blame them, bit it is just like the rich man said; "I just want MORE!" We have an awful lot, and I have hardly begun to discover all there is, but I WANT MORE!

Nothing wrong with wanting more. More Font Textures, More Ram, Bigger hard drives. The more the merrier.

You mentioned you only use PS7 for TitleDeko. I find it's the quickest way to edit simple cuts only footage, so I'm not above saying I use it. It came with my HP. I was expecting much, but the TitleDeko really impressed me. Previously, when I was last doing video 5 years ago, I was using Videonics Titlemaker 3000. All those lovely jagged edges (decent at the time though). So I've now been spoiled by TD, and it's cool that I can still use it with VV3.

I had too much trouble with Studio 7 and Pinnacle would not help in any way. Not even suggestions, just canned responses that didn't even relate to the subject matter at hand. It kept losing settings, changing transition types, making cross-fades that shouldn't have existed, and worst of all, it would start flutting on a project that was 95% finished when it never fluttered before.

However, I CAN get it to run long enough to make nifty titles of all kinds. That it seems to handle.

I haven't had any trouble with P7. I did order an upgrade for more effects, Pinnacle took the credit card charge, but then the download didn't take. I also got canned email responses when I tried to fix the problem. They were so much trouble, customer service-wise, I had to go through my credit card company to get the charge taken off. Pinnacle's skimping on the CS.

To say that Pinnacle skimps on Customer Service is a gross understatement. They have NEVER addressed my help requests, although they have always sent SOME sort of canned response. Never even approached the subject matter or problem, so I dumped them.
