For Billy Boy & co. - adding 4:3 to 16:9

To the resident experts:

We have a project shot with DSR 500/570s in 16:9. Some archival 4:3 must be added as B-Roll. When the cropped 4:3 clips are rendered there are severe motion artifacts in the form of jagged diagonal lines whenever there is movement. This manifests itself on 1.2 ghz/gig ram and 2.4 dual processor with 2 gig ram. If the speed property is set to 0.25 the image stabilizes but I'd prefer to be able to run the inserts at regualr speed. Any directions?

Thanks,

Peter

Sorry, I've never run into that problem. Just a wild guess, does it go away if you render the archival 4:3 footage at your project's size as a first step, then drop them in once they're rendered as 16:9?

It sounds like it may be a field order problem. Make sure the 4:3 footage is being rendered with the proper field order for the project. (upper or lower first to match)

Try this: before rendering, right click on the clip in the timeline and check box for "reduce intelace flicker".
