For Those Who Create Live CD's with Vegas...

I've noticed that Vegas Video claims to support CD Architect technology. However, I've found that many features in CD-Architect are missing in Vegas. For example, in CD-Arch. there is a way where it automatically creates tracks for you based on regions you set in your .WAV file in Sound Forge. (Just click on "Use Regions" when opening a WAVE file in CD-A).

The only way for me to do this in Vegas is to open the .WAV file in the trimmer where I see the regions. Then I must select each individual region and drag it to the timeline or hit A. Then I have to double-click, then select N for CD Audio Region (track). This is really a bummer.

Also, I've noticed that for some reason, when using this procedure, Vegas is not dead-on accurate in the CD Regions. I'm doing a live CD with no pauses in between. But what I notice are occasional pauses in the 1/1000ms range. (But you must zoom in a lot to see!)

For example, if I open the Details spreadsheet window, I look at CD Audio Track 1, which goes from 00:00:00.00 to 00:02:15.65. Then if I look at the Event list, I see Event 1 which goes from 00:00:00.00 to 00:02:15.67. When I zoom all the way in, I realize that the CD markers do not always align properly where the region line is. When I put the Vegas-burned Audio CD into my CD player, I occasionally hear a click when it goes to the next track. I even see the minus sign on my LCD display flicker for like 1/1000ms. (The minus sign appears for pauses between tracks, i.e. : -0:05, -0:04, etc.)

Because of these annoyances, I highly recommend people who still have CD Architect to use it. When using the CD-A procedure vs. Vegas, I had no clicks and everything was perfect. When I zoomed all the way in to 1:1, the CD Track markers were dead-on accurate.

I love Vegas Video 3.0 for its video production - it is an amazing program and is much better than Premiere. I hope Sonic Foundry will fix these minor bugs. Sonic Foundry, let me know if there's anyway to fix this in Vegas.

Thanks for reading my long post! :)

I agree with you. CD Architect was awesome. I still use it to create the layout, but I open the ".cda" in VV3 for the actual burning. It would be nice to be able to do everything in Vegas. I wonder if SF will ever fix this.
