Too bad their web site is so awful. Not going to sell much confidence with that.

But it is cool to think about. And I'm sure we'd all be surprised to see how fast the current Pentium 4 processor really is, if the long term storage bottle necks were eliminated.

Holographic disk drives. This really is the 21st Century. Wait till they store all data three-dimensionally in a quartz crystal. Superman's Fortress of Solitude isn't far away.

Interesting that you should say so. Although it was not a piece of quartz as we normally think of it, a piece of rock, they have been able to store data on a MOLECULE by MOLECULE basis in a crystal lattice. If the quartz were pure enough, and without fractures, it would probably work in that, too.

AsI mentioned before about 4 months ago InPhase technologies (Lucent)
has an Optical drive with eight different lasers with terabyte capacity
on one disc that can load and download a full length movie in 3 seconds.
The disc is the same size as cd rom . It will be market ready in about
a year.
