Foreign Films - sOT

This is slightly off topice but does anyone know of a website(s) where I can purchase foreign films. The past year I've been searching for a place to order Sundance film winners and nominees but just not sure where to go. The only place I've found is www.filmmovement.com but that is more of a subscription service than a "DVD store" and hardly have a complete selection.

I've also had luck ordering from www.dddhouse.com for those interesting asian films like, "House of Flying Daggers" and "Shaolin Soccer" before their "official" US release.

I'm interested in trying to obtain, "The Motorcycle Diaries" (from Brazil) and "The Sea Inside Me" (from Spain).

Any help is appreciated.

If you are talking about Diarios de motocicleta - The Motorcyle Diaries, it is on Amazon for $20.99 (US)

Didn't notice the other film for sale anywhere.

Hope that helps....

You may know about this already but you can't play DVDs from Europe on American DVD players, unless you have a "region-free" DVD player and most are not unless you hack them. This is because Film Studios don't want DVD to cannabalize theatrical distribution. For example, Shaun of the Dead was available on DVD in England five months before it was released in theaters in the US.

EDIT DELETED : D'oh, you did hear about filmmovement.com

Here's more on DVD regions.

Seven regions (also called locales or zones) have been defined, and each one is assigned a number. Players and discs are often identified by their region number superimposed on a world globe. If a disc plays in more than one region it will have more than one number on the globe.
1: U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories
2: Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt)
3: Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong)
4: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean
5: Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia
6: China
7: Reserved
8: Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.)

Release Date: February 15, 2005 The Motorcycle Diaries

The Sea Inside ... has not been released on dvd ...

it is playing in 2 theaters in the usa and (i think) 1 in Canada ..

i t was supposed to go wide jan 7th , but was pulled from distribution ....and no dates have been announced -- this usually means a money issue, prob. because of the awards it got - they want more...

I think the Sea Inside is now in wider distribution in February.

The website for the movie says it is now playing in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Portland, Boston, Seattle, Washington DC, Dallas, Houston, San Diego, Denver, Miami and Minneapolis.

It will probably get even wider distribution after The Oscars. The UK DVD is scheduled to be released in June.

I know some of these films have not been "officially" released in the US but clearly some of them have been out for some time in DVD probably in their native countries. I do have a completely region free DVD player from Shinco - the DVD hack specialists of China.

I've purchased many asian films from www.dddhouse.com way before they appear in the US theater but they tend to focus on asian countries' films only. I need a site for Europe and South American films. The alternative of course is to simply fly to Spain and Brazil and buy these movies at a local DVD store but that's way too expensive.
