Format for later burning to Blu-ray

I currently do not have a Blu-ray burner or player, but I would like to save my video projects to an output format that would work well for Blu-ray later on.

I have older versions of Vegas "Pro" (version 6) and Vegas Movie Studio (version 4) at my disposal, so there are no "burn to Blu-ray" obvious options.

Should I use HDV output (to .m2t) or something else?

Thanks for any advice!

Export in a lossless codec, like the third party Lagarith. If you export in HDV you will lose quality, as these versions of Vegas don't support no-reencoding.

Thanks... I will check into Lagarith. Is there an easy way to include it in the render templates? (Sorry if there is a well known way of doing this!)

You mentioned that newer versions of the products would support going to a good Blu-ray format without re-encoding. I might well upgrade soon. What format would they re-encode to, or what would that process look like?

Lagarith is always available under the AVI custom section after you install it.

HDV might just make it without re-encoding to a BD disk. AVCHD too.
