Format-Painter Feature?

gcoulthard wrote on 1/17/2002, 5:06 PM
As a Microsoft Office user, I'm used to changing formats in one area and then copying and pasting those changes elsewhere. I would love to see this feature used in applying FX to events. After setting Brightness/Contrast, HSL, and Color Balance to one event, I'd like to be able to apply it selectively to other events using a "Paste" feature.

Is this possible and I'm just missing it?

Thanks,
Glen

One way to do this is to duplicate the event with the FX applied to it and then add a different media file to the duplicated event as a take. Then delete the original take (the duplicated event) and the new media file has all the FX of the original. See my post on this topic:

Thanks for the reply.

I do realize that you can duplicate events with FX and replace the clip. Unfortunately, I have multiple clips from a four camera shoot being synced with two separate audio tracks (stage and live) and am using the "S" splitting in the track view to edit. Once my clips are placed and synced on the timeline, I'd rather lock and forget them.

Hope this suggestion makes it into a new release down the road though.

Bye for now,
Glen

If you split events on the timeline, all children events created by the split will have the same fx/crop/ switch/property parameters as the parent event(think genetics...)

You can also add fx to files in the media pool- every time that file is used in the timeline, the fx will already be there (esp. good for color correction filters)

Still not quite it though.

We have projects with lots of different source events in them. We've
got a basic edit in place with all the events on the timeline. Now we've
finished tweaking the effects, pan/crop, etc. for one event and we'd like
to copy those settings to other events already on the timeline.

Failing that, we'd like to be able to apply the same settings to a
grouped selection of events all at once.

Hopefully this doesn't sound too difficult. The suggestions that the Sonic
Foundry folks have been giving are all "before the edit" solutions. That's
fine if we know what effects you want in place before we start editing.
Personally, i like to see the clips in place first and then tweak stuff.
