"Format Painter" for FX?

Is there something like "format painter" for Vegas FX?

ie: In Word you can change the font, color, and size of text, then use format painter add those "effects" to any other text without having to go through and separately select font, color, size all over again.

Is there something like this for Vegas effects? Say for example I add a little noise, sepia, or whatever to a video selection. Can I easily add all these effects to another video selection without having to reselect everything?

Yep, Select the clip and hit Control C to copy. Select destination clip or clips and right click and you will see 'Paste Event Attributes'.

Yes! Yes there is .. not quite Format Painter .. but similar . .

PASTE EVENT ATTRIBUTES [PEA] : Right Click on Event > COPY > move to another Event > Rt Click > PASTE EVENT ATTRIBUTES [PEA]!

You now have the FXs and other stuff from Event A in Event B!

Having said that, this is a MUST have for doing multiples. Yup, same procedure, but this time pick of the Events you want to PEA onto, by CTRL Click and pick off the ones you want, OR SHIFT click a range OR choose a RANGE with the SELECTION tool.

Word of warning. You can of course over-PEA an event. Meaning, you can - I do this - forget just what EVENT you have already PEA-ed onto. John Meyer, our scripting Guru, has made a must-have script that will inform you of doubled up FXs, maybe as a result of over-PEAing. (Lol!)

Rattangle, Grazie, thank you very much, that's it. Perfect. and easy.

And I'll be carefully not to PEA too much on my clips.

another thing u can do is that u an retain ur collection of PEAs (i wouldnt bottle them..;) ) and just save your effect chains as a "filter package"
Opening up your FX manager box, u can then drag and drop the whole chain onto the respective clip... voila

just dont eat the yellow snow..

in veegas hit "f1" to open the help then use the index to search for "Copying Event Attributes". it gives a list of everything that can/is copied when you do this.

What HappyF maybe alluding to is what we had kinda avoided the you can't do this with items within Generated Media - oh no! Can o' worms here .. I'm off!

what? No! I was alluding to the fact it was sooo easy to find in the manual/help file. ;)

But yeah, it only copies/pastes attirbs that are common among all media of a type (video or audio). To do the generated media you'd have to paste a new GM first.

Ahhh, maybe everyone already knows this, but with this PEA thing, you can "automatically" do the Ken Burns effect on a bunch of pics.

Just pan/crop one, then PEA all over the rest of the pics.

To make them not quite all the same, you could CTRL click and select every other pic and have a few different pan/crops throughout your slideshow.

And that, dear Robin, was how those sweet little Scripts were born. Good night. Good night - everywhere . . . .

But remember when PEA'ing" (so to speak) that if you already have event FX on an event and you PEA on it, it will ADD the effects to the ones already there. Where as if you place a plug in chain on the event it will remove any existing FX and add only the ones in the chain.

May be known to most but for those who dont......

I didn't know that... I'll have to play with the plug-in chains when I get home this afternoon.

Thanks!

nothing say "oh crap!" more then finding out you accidently changed all the FX when showing the final product to the client. ;)

You started this thread about text properties - font, size etc.
Note that PEA will NOT work on text (or any generated media), as it will add the event attributes, but not generated media attributes.

I was just using the text properties and MS-styled format painter as an example for what I wanted to do with video FX on tracks, which I learned is called "PEA", which it looks like you're very familar with. Thanks!

"Where as if you place a plug in chain on the event it will remove any existing FX and add only the ones in the chain."

Did that once and didn't realized until after a 'save' and caused lots of extra work.

So I guess this could be called a 'PEA'ing tutorial.
