Formatting

I use Vegas Studio 4.0...I know it's old...but I like it!

I'm producing a video for a local agency here in town. They will be using it as a promo via DVD and would also like to air it on TV as a PSA. I thought I read somewhere that Vegas is used by some TV shows for editing...does anyone know if and how I would format/save the file for it to be TV compatible. Can it be done?

Also...if I were to upgrade my Vegas Studio...which version would you recommend. I downloaded the free trial of 7.0 and didn't care for it...so I stuck with my 4.0.

Thanks

Version 8 PE is great, I think its better the 4, you also get color correction,

The only way to know for sure is to contact the TV station and ask. Some are very open and will accept a DVD, a MiniDV tape, a disc with a DV .avi file, an MPEG2 file, a DigitBeta cassette, or (good heavens!) even a VHS cassette.

Probably your best bets if you don't get a timely answer from the station are MiniDV or a disc with DV .avi. A DVD blank can hold up to about 20 minutes of DV .avi and a CD blank can hold almost 3 minutes. Make sure you label it explicitly with something like "contains an AVI file in DV format" so that they don't assume it's a DVD and try playing it in a DVD player. Not that it would hurt their DVD player, but the player would say "invalid disc" and they'd probably just toss it rather than sticking it in a PC without the explicit label.
