It might be mobile friendly but it is now desktop/laptop unfriendly.

The sight looks like it's targeting elementary school children.

This is CSS gone awry.

Totally agree Anthony.

For me its clean and no big distraction. Easy to read. And for reading purposes, i always use my phone. If many are not comportable viewing this site in  desktop/laptop, maybe we suggest to the magix team to make a MODE for phone and desktop for this site. :)

Looks great on my smartphone. Could hardly read the old SCS site on it. I reduced the page zoom size in FireFox on laptop PC using CTRL -. Looks better.

AnthonyTower wrote on 8/24/2016, 1:31 PM

@Elex

It's not uncommon for a decent website to link to one set of stylesheets targeting mobile users and to a different set of stylesheets targeting desktop/laptop users. All stylesheets share the same HTML code.

Unless I missed something, I coudn't help to notice that this community forum website links to only 1 stylesheet:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/js/ckeditor/skins/moono/editor.css?t=G2VC

@paul_w

Having to zoom in an out in your browser depending on what site you're on is known in the industry as very bad practice and just makes navigating the web a clunky experience.

But it's not just the size of text and everything else, it's also this "Hello Kitty" theme that permeates this forum.

Sony's "old school" website could be made available on Magix's server and be left to the user to choose which he or she prefers.

'Just my two cents.

There is no way back to the old design, for good reasons. Of course you have to get used to the new look, would be nice if you give it a chance. Mobile optimization was an important part and it has an influence on the pc site for sure (in fact the site is using more than only 2 layouts to target all the different devices on the market). Thats why we are verry happy to hear positive Feedback from mobile Users.

We did put a lot effort in making the site easy to use and clean to read for everyone. If you have any suggestions you are free to send us your feedback.

I have no problem with how a website looks as long as it functions. We need a scroll bar on the right and a way to get back to top of page quickly or links to forums at the bottom (or a back to forum or forum lists)

BuzzDee wrote on 8/24/2016, 2:11 PM

There is a scrollbar on the right, i know its tiny but its there. As workaround to get to the top on the Pc Site just press "Pos1" on your Keyboard. We are collecting all this Feedback and will see what we can do to improve the overall user experience.

Or "Home" for some of us users 😃

AnthonyTower wrote on 8/24/2016, 2:27 PM

Thank you BuzzDee for sharing that information with us.

May I ask though what was so wrong with the old design?

I've been surfing the web for at least 20 years and have witnessed every step of it's evolution and have noticed how CSS is shaping the look of HTML, most times for better, but sometimes for worse.

I have also witnessed in dismay the general 'dumbing-down' of websites and program user interfaces in the last 5  or 6 years.

For example take a look at Microsoft.

Look what they did with Windows from XP all the way to 10.

The heads in Redmond decided to give the mobile and desktop users the same interface.

That's ridiculous at best because mobile/finger based user interaction and keyboard/mouse interaction are two different beasts.

Apple has understood this and keep iOS and MacOS apart.

The same is true for web interaction.

For one, I wonder what proportion of people commenting here do it on a mobile device rather than with a desktop/laptop computer?

Could that not be used as a basis for having a separate CSS file for desktops?

Again, just my two cents.

Aww yes, or "home" ofcourse :) btw "end" works as well to get to the buttom - surprise surprise!

@AnthonyTower: If you open the site on different devices you will notice they show completely different layouts. but they share the same design as much as possible so we don't have to implement everything several times.

We still can tune the layouts and appreciate your feedback.

Wow, I do not see a scrollbar. I am using Chrome with windows 10 and my screen goes all the way to the edge.

HOME and END works good. Thanks

The squeaky wheel usually gets the oil.

Thank you BuzzDee!

I'm using Windows 10 and Chrome as well. The scroll bar is there -- it's just really thin. On IE and Edge it's about twice as thick. Note that on IE and Edge it doesn't show up until you either scroll with the mouse wheel or move your cursor over the right edge of your screen.

I Safari on my iPad, sometimes when replying the "comment" and "cancel" buttons appear and sometimes they don't. When they don't, I can't reply. They did this time so I could post.

I'm in agreement with Anthony

- the old Forum was prefaced with a single page where we could see all the Sub-Forums summarized and determine whether anything had changed since last visit at a glance, which was very handy if you follow more than one Sub-Forum.

- in the old Sub-Forums we could see many (~ around 20) Topics on a page with ability to pick what we wanted to read with probably no scrolling involved; now we are lucky to see 3 or 4 Topics, so we spend all our time scrolling....... once we are within the Topic it's all about scrolling....

- I seeme too remomber Smeling uzed too bea checkckcked om tha eld Fodums.

I am using FireFox on WinXP or Win7 ... only scrollbar I see is the normal Windows one; what has changed?

I sure hope the Search function returns, otherwise migrating the old Forums here was a pointless exercise.

have to agree that there's a huge amount of wasted space. childish layout suitable for entertainment rather than professional use.

quite frankly i never use any vegas forum on my mobile, i consult them when at nle, office desktop and laptop.

still i hope for improvement given time...

navigation controls on the buttom are already on our todo list.

Page Up and Page Down for screen advance up or down.

Up Arrow and Down Arrow for scrolling.

But that shouldn't be new infromation to anyone.
