Forum outages

Last night the forum was down again. I got re-directed (again) to a Screenblaster page that didn't make any sense and had no information.

Sony web guys,

If you have to take things down for a while, can't you forward us to a temporary page that really applys to what you are maintaining, and it would be real nice if you said something there about the expected length of the outage.

The way your are doing this now makes it look like you are internet clueless.

Maybe you are. Not the way a big company like Sony should present themselves is it?

I suspect the problems (usually DNS related) are the fault of whatever ISP they are using unless they have their own direct feed to the Internet which I doubt. Sometimes I get the impression the web server this forum is hosted on is some aging 486 box with maybe 256 MB RAM. Something that could be tolerated for a "little" company like SoFo, but for Sony, geez... to have your web site bounce up and down like a yo-yo several times a month isn't very professional an image to have associated with your company image which I believe Sony is intensely proud of.

Why would that direct us to a different Sony-related page?

I think its maintenance by the page managers. That's fine, but I just want them to redirect us to something that makes sense (and even gives some information) while the pages are down.

What I find truly unprofessional is that there is no way (at least that I could find) to find Vegas -- much less this forum -- from the main Sony page. If I were in Madison (SoFo HQ), I'd be furious.

Just log on to www.sony.com and see if you can find Vegas. Try the search engine (you'll laugh -- or maybe cringe -- at the results). Try all the links.

I couldn't find Vegas anywhere. As far as the Sony web site is concerned, it doesn't exist. Not good.

John, that would mean they'd have to shut down that site, too, in order to make the changes. That being the case, Sony would cease to have an oline presense. ;o)
