fram by frame film transfer process

JJack wrote on 4/30/2004, 11:23 AM
I do a significant amount of home movie transfer to VHS/DVD. Like most, I use aprojector, camera with manual controls, and a proc amp. I get pretty good results.

I am aware there is a frame by frame digital scan system; I have found 2 providers on the web, but they are mum about what/how they do it.

Anyone out there know who makes such equipment? Jack

www.moviestuff.tv makes and sells the WorkPrinter, a frame-discrete transfer projector.

I own the Workprinter and can vouch that it provides spectacular results, very close to what you might get from a $$$ Rank Cinetel. Send me an email if you want more info.

I just sent both of you, via email, the following. You can either respond in private or post your questions here. Also, I would recommend that you click on your post above, then click on the edit button, and remove your email address. Normally when you post such things in public, you should garble them up a bit so the SpamBots don't find them. For now, just edit the post to delete the email address. In the future, do something like "johndoe" at "juno" dot "com".

I have the original Workprinter, before Roger changed the design. It is the original workhorse. It does both 8mm and Super8. I developed some pulldown scripts for AVISynth that so I could do correct pulldown of 18 fps. However, I find that if you put the original footage in Vegas, and slow it to 60% (18/30) with Force Resample, that the footage is pretty darn good (although the AVISynth is cleaner because it does an exact telecine without the blended frames).

I have posted many times in the Vegas forum about this. Just do a search on my user name and "Workprinter".
