frame-snapping?

I notice that VV3, as opposed to previous versions, snaps events to frames even when snapping is turned off? Am I right?

This is good as I used to often trim clips in the trimmer and drag them to the timeline, double-click them to set the loop region around it, then render -just- the loop region to a file. Without frame-snapping, it would allow me to size the event in between frames, which would result in a black frame at the beginning or end of the file or both. I generally only did this when preparing clips for VJ software, where it is crucial that the file loop seamlessly.

This seems to be bad for sizing audio however. If I plan to work on an audio-only project, I'd want to size audio events to a precision finer than 1/30 second.

Is there a way to defeat this snapping?

GG is spot on - select 'Quantize to Frames' from the options menu.

The Keyborad shortcut is Alt+F8.

A quick way to bypass Frame snapping is to do the following (assuming you are editing audio, eg moving a clip in time; extending a clip etc)

1) move mouse to appropriate place for action (clip edge; clip body etc)
2) keep mouse still
3) click and hold left button
4) hold down shift key on keyboard
5) now move mouse - frame snapping is bypassed for this edit only!
