My wife bought me CS4 master collection For my birthday (I guess she thought she was being nice..... I HATE pp) but none the less I'll toy around with it anyway. Just looking for efficient methods of running files between vegas and pp.... or even AE for that matter.
My workflow to Vegas from AE is first of all to put the project into the render tab ( rather than exporting) and then render out a .PNG sequence, then if I have to re-do a portion that doesn't affect everything, I can just simply re-render the files and they'll auto update in Vegas if the image sequence just updates right away in Vegas.
For a cuts only edit AAF seems to work OK.
The Sony YUV files are interchangeable, they work properly in PP oddly enough. Uncompressed works with anything.
Audio seems to really suck in PP, until you discover the mixed panel that it's had for years :)
You can find plenty to hate in anything, Vegas drove me nuts coming from PP years ago. I've learned to stop hating and just get my head around things and use the various strengths of any program. Once you work out how it wants you to do things you can get a lot more done and come to enjoy using most programs.
If you really want to learn AE put aside a LOT of time. It'll drive you insane if you don't get the basics down pat. Watch some of the zillion free tutorials readily available. Watch how the pros drive it, once you can navigate your way around like they do then you can get productive. I just did a 100 layer composite in AE. It got pretty sticky towards the end and took hours to render 1 minute but it got there without a bump. I used to have it wink out regularly trying to make it work the wrong way. Getting my nVidia drivers up to date has helped a lot too.
"There's a lot more to that software bundle than just PP."
Yes, it's really a full boat. I find it a little odd though... 2 photoshops ...32 and 64 bit while everything else is 32 bit..... and no Adobe Audition. Not that it really matters... I already have Audition, but I've been comparing AA with Soundbooth and AA seems MUCH better and for sure the stronger of the 2 programs. I'm a little miffed as to why they did that with the master edition.

Yeah... I've spent the last couple of weeks concentrating on AE. You can sure do a lot with it.... but a fast and sleek Vegas type interface.... it is NOT.
I'm pretty much an SCS guy through and through but, out of the entire CS4 package, I use AE a bit, but I use Encore almost exclusively for making DVDs and Blu-ray discs. Once you wrap your head around it, it is really powerful. I really like the flowchart for visualizing the linking of assets. It also integrates with Photoshop very well for tweaking menus.

Yeah, but it Stinks for subs compared to DVDA. Yeah it has neat CC handling, but most players won't pass CC thru so that's relatively useless. It echoes their miserable captioning in Flash.
And that's my public service, slap the *@!!! developers at Adobe, moment.
Thanks :-)
