Framework 1.1 Installation Problems

I am having problems installing Vegas 6 on a new PC. I am being
prompted to install Microsoft.Net Framework 1.1 before installing
Vegas 6. I have tried installing this from both the CD and Microsoft download without any success. I keep getting the following message:

"Cannot be installed because you have one or more hot fixes installed. Remove them and try again"

I tried this installation before and after installing the latest windows updates and it still won't install.

This is a new PC with SP2 installed. I'm not sure of what hot fixes
to remove. I found a HotFix Folder in the Program Files/Common Files with Ten Folders/11Files in it. Most of those files appear to be related to SONY and OpenMG. I am clueless as to what action to take.

This is a SONY VAIO VCG-RB40 Desktop P4 3.0 XP SP-2.

I would greatly appreciate some help.

Thanks,

Jay Mitchell

I found two articles in Microsoft knowledge base dealing with this specific error. It can be triggered when installing the Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 update.

If the Hot Fix described in the first article is not installed in your system read the second article for a Registry edit solution.

Since you are building a new PC you are maybe referring to the original Framework 1.1 installation package. I didn't see any references of whether this error could also be triggered with the original installation package but in any case the first article's solution it may be proved useful.

I found the same articles and performed the fixes.

1. Removed HotFix KB886904
2. Removed Framework 1.1
3. Restart
4. Install Framework 1.1
5. Install Service Pak Framework 1.1

What a nightmare!

Thank you very much for taking your time to help me!
