DV takes about 220MB per minute. 14GB should give you about 65
minutes of capture time.
Do you have more than one hard drive in your computer? VideoCapture
might only be looking at the free space on one of the drives and not the
one with the 14GB free. Under Preferences, Disk Management you can
specify which drives and folders to use. If the drive you want isn't listed,
click on Insert Folder and add it. You may also prevent the use of other
drives if you wish.
I believe it's telling you how much time you can capture in one file (4 gigs is the limit on FTA32 systems - but that should be 3.71 megs per second or roughly 16 or 17 minutes)
The new VidCap 2.5 automatically and seamlessly breaks captures into
separate 4GB files. Each piece holds about 19 minutes. It also calculates
the time remaining for all drive space that you have listed under Disk
Management. If i have 35GB free on each of my two data drives, it will
say that there is room for about 5.5 hours.
OK I cheked and I do have the correct drive assigned. I think you hit on something and it's the 4gb limit. It's nottelling me how much space on my disk . .but just how much time I can get out of my 4 gigs.
I guess I'm still depresssed that, even though the digital gives me MUCH better quality, the file size is sooo much larger with Firewire.
So Chien, are you saying that the 4gb limit will no longer be a problem because Vidcap will automatically roll it over into a new file ?? Hmmm, that sounds NICE.
Excuse my slowness (it's late at night here) but how do you get 5.5 hours on 35 gigs ? My math is 4 gigs goes into 35 gigs 8.7 times. 8.7 * 19 minutes = 166 minutes, which equals 2.77 hours
fosko, your math is perfect. However, i did mention that i have 35GB
free on each of two drives, which is 70GB total.
Also, the automatic rollover into additional files at the 4GB limit is only
available in VidCap2.5 (included with VideoFactory 2.0) and the new
VidCap that comes with VegasVideo 3.0
