Drat, and I just bought prompter software. Have you tried it yet?

it's not bad, and especially for free

While looking for teleprompting software about six months ago I found a teleprompter. It included software that was offered for FREE. I downloaded it and used it to produce 4 training videos for 3M.

I just went there now: http://www.sirismedia.com/products/teleprompter/

It is no longer free, but it is only $19.95! That's almost free!

Very simple to use, works great, I adjust the speed on the fly from my laptop as the talent is reading. Works great and I highly recommend it.

I tried the demos of several applications and was not impressed (some wouldn't go past 640 x 480 resolution. This works terrific.

To use it I put a flat panel monitor on a music stand (the sturdy kind that can be tightened) directly below the video camera (so the eyes don't shift to the side). Then I run a cable to my laptop that faces me while filming so I can adjust the speed so the talent can sound more natural.

I hope this helps.

While the siris promter software looks great and nice and simple.
I am a little leary, went to the site to order it and first of all their security cert is expired and popped up all sorts of flags then it was including a shipping charge, so I backed out before inputing a credit card. Plus tried to call the number on thier website it rings then a click and a dead line...
Too bad looks nice and simple what i am looking for but too many red flags there for me.

I just want to make sure everyone has a chance to see the free teleprompter software before they convert it back to pay-for software.

Thanks Chanimal.

I tried it, but it is very limited as to what it can do--beyond scrolling.

As someone mentioned, you get what you pay for. If all you need is basic scrolling text, then you've got it!
