Free Vision Cd's?????

Jsnkc wrote on 5/13/2003, 4:10 PM
I just got a e-mail today from SoFo that states:

Save $50 when upgrading to Vegas 4.0 and receive FREE:

>> Vision Series 1: Evolving Luminous Objects
>> Vision Series 2: Living Color Fields

>>That's two volumes - FOUR CDS! - of cutting edge video
>>textures and backdrops, a total value of $200 FREE with your upgrade.

Any chance we could still get these CD's if we recently purchased the VV4 upgrade?????

Drool . . .
I would love these, but unfortunately bought the academic version.

BOO!

I upgraded to version 4 immediately and only got one DEMO disk that has the SoFo logo all over the samples so you can't really use it. Now they're giving away FOUR of the actual CD's foir free?

I want the 4 full CD's too!

How about it SoFo?

Luxo wrote on 5/13/2003, 5:33 PM
...um, didn't those of us who updated immediately get a much better deal $$$ wise? Like enough of a discount to buy the vision CDs and still come out ahead of this deal?
NeilPorter wrote on 5/14/2003, 6:42 AM
I think the price reduction offer of $50 off is the same as we had, isn't it? I would like some free CDs, too.

While on the subject - the SOFO 1001 Sound FX CD - did it ever come free with Vegas 3.0 or was it always pay with extra $ ?

Regards,

Add USD 30 for shipping and the "Free" CD got very expensive over here.

One of the things that puts me off buying a lot of this stuff is the shipping charge, its outrageous for a CD and in this day and age why not the option to download it, 650 MB isn't that big.

Alternatively other US companies use US postal service, gets here about as fast as the couriers, only inconvenience is I have to go to the local post office and sign for it but for a saving of USD 25 its worth it.

I didn't get no vision cd's I vote SFO offers them to us at a reasonable price (nothing we pay shipping?)
Jsnkc wrote on 5/14/2003, 10:37 AM
Actually in the e-mail it states you can save $50 off the normal upgrade price of $199 which would be the same $150 price that I assume we all paid for the upgrades, PLUS they are throwing in the 4 CD's

My beef is this. I like others IMMEDIATELY upgraded to Vegas 4 and in my case Vegas plus DVD, knowing SoFo was in cash troubles. I download the web version. When I phoned in the order I was told I would get a FREE Vision CD. OK. I did, but it isn't the same as offered now. I got a CHEESY SALES MERCHASDISING DEMO DISC. Not anything you can actually use. Just a CD to promote the visions CD products. Now SoFo is giving away four fully function Vision CD's on top of a discounted Vegas upgrade price.

It isn't that they can't change their offer, sure they can. It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you support SoFo, immediately upgrade, then see some months later people that waited for others to be guenia pigs finding and reporting bugs in version 4, (you've noticed we're already at 4c), then those people get a better deal.

Worse, as before SoFo is all over the map with their "offers" .Before this, the price in the catalog was different than the email which was different then on the web page for awhile, and it also seems different depending on who you talk to when you phone in your order.

What REALLY bugs me isn't that someone started a thread about the offer, rather SoFo's marketing department sending me an email informing me of the better deal, when I had already purchased, months before.

So I can see I got screwed by ordering immediately.

Its like you buy an airline ticket and pay an inflated price and learn you did because the guy next to you tells you. That's makes you mad. But if the flight attendant comes up to you and taps you on the shoulder and says guess what... your got your ticket a month ago and we charged you $250. The guy sitting next to you, paid only $150, because we wanted to fill the plane. Snicker, giggle, giggle. So you feel like a chump and probably will fly a different airline next time.

I guess from the lack of a SoFo response it is safe to assume that all of us loyal vegas users who purchased the upgrade as soon as it became avaialble are pretty much SOL on the vision Cd's.
Jsnkc wrote on 5/14/2003, 2:23 PM
I got the 1001 sound effects free with my Vegas 3.

Just recently, I received heavily discounted email offers for Vegas + Vision, CD Architect 5 and Noise Reduction 2. My cynical guess is that SF is trying to get as much cash as possible from the software before the products become Sony's property.

The "cheesy sales merchandising demo disc" had 10 free avi files on it, some of which I already actually did use. Granted, you have to explore the cd rather than just opening it.

For the price I paid for Vegas DVDA back at the beginning, I'm not complaining at all about the deal I got - regardless of the new Vision deal and Vegas prices now.

Frankly, at this point I'm more interested in what the impact of Sony will be on the future of the Vegas software.

I encourage everyone to send an email to customer service requesting a similar offer be extended to those of us who upgraded earlier. Perhaps if enough people respond SoFo will at least offer a better price on the Vision Series CD's. Can't hurt to ask.
Jsnkc wrote on 5/16/2003, 11:04 AM
Just to let everyone know I did send the SoFo customer service an e-mail about this and today I got a reply:

"Thank you for writing. I will need your authorization to charge your credit
card the $5.00 shipping charge and then I can process the order."

Not a bad deal..$5 for 4 vision Cd's, I'm glad SoFo finally came thorugh on this.

I also sent a message to customer service but haven't received a message back. I hope I get a similar offer. Thanks for posting your success story.
Jsnkc wrote on 5/16/2003, 12:16 PM
It took them 3 days to send a reply, so maybe they just haven't gotten to your e-mail yet.
Jsnkc wrote on 5/21/2003, 5:45 PM
Not to bring back a dead topic, just letting you all know that I got my 4 free vision CD's in the mail today and SoFo only charged me $5 for the shipping and that was the only cost. These are the real things, not like what came on the content CD with vegas 4, there is no SoFo logo watermark on them. All I did was send a e-mail to SoFo support and they sent me a e-mail back asking for my authorization to charge $5 to my credit card, and I got them a few days later. IF you haven't e-mailed them yet..Do so SOON! I don't know how much longer this offer is good for.
Jsnkc wrote on 5/22/2003, 11:04 AM
There are a total of 50 loops that come on the 2 sets of vision CD's, some of them were on the sampler CD, but they don't have the logo on them like they did on the sampler CD.
Jsnkc wrote on 5/22/2003, 11:52 AM
On the Vision CD's I just got from SoFo, Volumes 1 and 2, 4 discs total. There are a total of 50 loops. They are in the .AVI Format. The CD I got with my Vegas 4 had a vision sereies sampler CD, there were I think 10 clips that didn't have the watermark that were .AVI files.
SonyDennis wrote on 5/25/2003, 11:41 PM
The 10 files on the sampler CD (in DV format) have no watermark and are identical to 5 files from Vision Series set 1, and 5 files from set 2.

I would like to jump in on this good deal! It would help ease the pain from having purchased the $140 plug-in JUST prior to the announcement of V4. Ouch. I'm still waiting to hear from customer service.
AlohaMike wrote on 5/29/2003, 5:44 PM
Cool. SF CS just wrote and the Visin CD's are on the way. Thanks for the heads-up everyone! They just charged me the $5 S/H. What a deal.

I sent my email this afternoon, but I haven't heard back yet. I hope I'm as successful, but SoFo has always been fair so I suspect I'll hear soon enough.

I also sent an a email 0n 5/30/03. So far I have not heard back. I hope they do take this in consideration since I always been a loyal customer. And also I paid $139.00 for plug-in pack two months prior to Vegas 4.0 not knowing that it was going to be part of Vegas 4.0. Also I was one of the first one ordering Vegas 4.0 + DVD 30 day’s prior to release date. Now new buyers getting better deal. I may do the same next time.
