Freeze during reverse search with vidcap60

During reverse in search for in and out points on DV tapes the picture in the preview window freezes when I use Vegas' own vidcap60.exe to capture clips. The transport buttons still work OK when I click them. The picture in the preview window comes alive again after a shut down and restart of vidcap60.exe.

I have tried different FireWire cables, reinstalling Vegas and the video card with latest drivers, there are no IRQ conflicts, both of my 2GB RAM blocks are recognized correctly, no heat problems and I have no dropped frames during capture. The tapes have been recorded from analog Hi8 tapes on a Sony DSR-25.

I had no problems right after Vegas was installed and I do not remember making any changes to my set up just before the problem showed up. Capture works fine with the capture unit in Sony Picture Utility but, I prefer vidcap ( if I can get it to work properly).

I hope somebody here can help me get over this annoying and time consuming problem.

Thanks in advance.

@musicvid.

Thanks, but, I'm not looking for a new capture device. I'm looking for a way to cure vidcap60.exe.

Sorry, my advice was not meant to be flip, but to the point.

Vidcap has remained virtually unchanged over several versions, with the exception of adding HD capture at one point.

The quirkiness of the program with different hardware and systems, including freeze-ups, is well known in these forums.

In your case, opening a support ticket with Sony Tech Support may be your best course. Other than using a more stable capture program, I'm afraid I can't offer anything other than that.
