Freezing when Rendering

I've been reading another forum in which a user loads video from an external drive into a project and VMS freezes when rendering that project into an .avi file.

Does this happen to a lot of you who use this program? I am using VMS 6.0. To sort of test this, I loaded a small video clip from my external drive and tried to render it. It rendered with no problem. I would guess that clip to be about one minute (I didn't check for sure and did not keep it).

I just purchased a new 500GB external hard drive and would appreciate feedback before I load ALL of my video (about 100 hours of it) onto this drive to continue work on a project. Currently part of my video is on the internal drive and the other part on a smaller external drive. I purchased the larger drive to not only get all video onto one drive but also to include all my digital pics as well. The digital pics will not be part of this video project.

Thanks for the help/feedback.

If you haven't had a problem with this, there's not much troubleshooting you can do. All you can do is decide whether you want to take the risk or not. If and when you do run into a problem you can open a trouble ticket with Sony.

IIRC, you're referring to a post in which Eugenia replied that this was a problem when the media were considered offline. I work with data on internal drives 95% of the time, though I personally haven't run into this problem even when I have kept my media on an external USB drive. The only case in which I work with data on the external drive is if I'm working on older projects that I want to resurrect for some reason.
