Front end for Vegas

I have now sold my digi001 with PTLE, and I'm now relying on Vegas as my main audio production tool... I'm looking forward to Vegas 4 with DX autmation+++
I never did like the preamps in digi001, so now I need something new.
What do you use as front end? Most of the time I only need to record 1 or 2 tracks simultaneously, but I also would like the possibility to record 12 to 16 tracks.
So what I think I really need are a two channel pre amp of decent quality and maybe a digital mixer ala Behringer DDX3216 to be able to record more than two tracks.
Any suggestions? Are there alternatives to the Behringer within the same price range? Maybe the Presonus digimax?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Lars

Thanks for the input.
Two products within my budget:
- Focusrite OctoPre
- Swissonic AD8
These two products looks very similar in features and price. Any knowledge about the quality?
