I've recently started using Magic Bullet Movie Looks. I like the results. But in another forum thread I read something about Movie Looks not supporting Vegas in the future (or something like that) based on the fact that since more and more cameras are shooting native 24p, there is no need for a post-production module that emulates the 24p look. (Did I get that right??)

((Not entirely.. MB is now either a AE, FCP or Premier eplugin due to GFX card and "relationships" between these companies and red giant. Thing is, MB3 is no different to MB2, save for afew presets, BUT MB3 will be a standalone product as well... so ur not missing out on much.. i use MB2, and cannot fault it.. i see no reason to "upgrade" ))


OK, I'm confused. With my limited knowledge, it appears that Movie Looks actually has 2 independent functions:

1) It converts or emulates in some way the 24p look

((Thats the deinterlacing element, there is also Misfire (which is an old film emulator.. IMO the virtual dub old movie filter is as good, if not better... and more importantly renders abotu 15x faster..))

2) It has all kinds of color/contrast enhancing filters to give the video clip different 'looks'.

((It has a select set of colouring and diffusion features which can be routed through ur GFX card.. works a treat, also works well for colour matching cameras without the need to colour correct, as its usually WB which are off. In this case, u can create white gradations (much like gradient map) within MB2, so u can do correction, diffusion, gradient, al within the one plugin... all in realtime.. saves cpu on output))

I can understand the diminishing need to emulate a 24p look given emergence of native 24p cameras.

((Dont make jack of a difference when using vegas.. Vegas still ahs one of the best deinterlacing engine on the market.. better than the "high end" pro stuff like avid... then again, u can also use Smartdeinterlacier and get better results.. ))

But even so, that won't remove the need for all the fancy color/contrast enhancing filters. If MB goes away, I don't want to lose that capability.

Actually, even if MB stays around, I'd like to find even more color/contrast filters to choose from.

Are there some other packages of professional-looking color/contrast filters that can be added to Vegas other than the MB package?

((Lots... chec out the vasst site for some scrpt plugins which utilise teh in built vegas filters in a series of chains.. they also distribute a fair number of plugs which are always useful and u might even find some free stuff too.. ))
