Black on red using the DV25 codec is never going to look good, actually even the 'before' doesn't look too good either even though it goes downhill in the 'after'.

Well, kinda needs to be red (some variation anyway) to show that these are errors. But I am noticing this even on the scans that are not highlighted red but just the scan, black text on white. Just seems that there should not be that much degeneration upon render.

Also, when the pages are fit to the screen the text is gibberish though they should be readable, only when zoomed in can they be read at all. Not making much sense to me.

lower the red down quite a bit.. perhaps to ~200. That should help GREATLY!

You could also zoom in more & show less. There aren't many pixels for the text to show up on.

Especially considering that red is at best half resolution in DV.

Hmmm. How about having the background grey instead of red, and then put a red highlight around the clipping? That would keep the red away from the text.

reds are off the charts,, turning them down will help some.
If you aren't already try creating the cutouts with typed text in photoshop and they should work fine,, long as the red turned down to close to legal
good luck
