FUZZY TEXT? Text editor?

I am doing a closed Captioned project that requires me to post 3 lines of text below each image. No matter what I have tried the text appears to be fuzzy, almost faded out of focus. Some letters are worse than others. At this point I would say it appears to be a glitch in the text processor. I am rendering uncompressed .avi files and have checked to see that all the "effects" are off. I have tried different fonts. I have tried white text on black background and black text on a white background. Any advise would be great. I even download vegas pro 9 thinking it would work better. Same issues. This is not the first time I have experienced this. The font size I am using is 12 point. Aside from using the sharpen filter, any ideas?

How are you doing this and watching it?
If it's through the preview window in DVDA, try burning a short sample to DVD and watching it on a TV set.
The preview in DVDA is well-known for being less than accurate :-(
I've done several DVDs that have been sub-titled and never had any problems with the quality of the text (usually Arial 14 pt. with a black border/shadow).

*increase the resolution of the text event
*use a higher point font & shrink via pan/crop
*use protype
*try using uncompressed QT PNG. I've noticed files look identical to the preview - best with QT PNG, Uncompressed AVI looks different (slightly).

I've noticed this too.
I was doing two layers of text in this last project. One was from pro titler, looked great. The other was a transparent text layer. Same font but it wasn't as bright and did seem like it was out of focus. At the end of the clip was another transparent text layer by it's self and it too looked fuzzy.
