@Grazie means the "Split Screen View" button with this setting

For what you want you must uncheck that button till its colour not blue anymore.

you say uncheck the button till its not blue anymore - well i clicked on the icon and its not blue anymore and the fx are working again, thank you so much for your advice and support, its much appreciated, i knew it was something really simple and at least i will know what to do if it happens again. thank you once again
