FX parameters automation

Is there a way to to automate the FX parameters in vegas or with a external program?
I want automate a filter(cutoff) on a track.

You can only automate assignable fx and this is done the same way as with the volume and panning envelopes. No external program yet ;-(

If I use FXpasion(in Vegas) with VST plugins, i see a midi input on the(fxpasion)pluginwindow.
Would this work in vegas with a external sequenser ?
