You probably hit FX bypass in your Preview window. Looks like a little half moon/half darkened circle.

Douglas,

You are right. The FX Bypassed is checked, but I keep on clicking on the Box but it won't uncheck.

"The FX Bypassed is checked, but I keep on clicking on the Box but it won't uncheck."

Does this mean you have a solution or not? If not, then look at its drop down menu. You will see "ALL" and right or left. The "ALL" if not selected AND when you hit the ICON will switch OFF the Fx. Try it both ways if my explanation isn't clear enough. I too found the working of this very important ICON truly counter intuitive until I tried it several times!

OK, I was just diddling about with the icon and I think I found what I was doing wrong. I was clicking on the Down Arrow and getting the drop down menu with FX Bypassed/Clipboard/ Select Left/Right /All, which seemed to tally with what DSE suggested (he mentioned the FX Bypassed option), except that I couldn't make it work.
After reading your explanation, Grazie, I clicked on the actual Half Moon icon - and Bingo - It worked. I was able to do the ChromaKey operation I was attempting. You are right, it is not very intuitive. I'll remember in future that the Half Moon and the Down Arrow are separate functions.

Thanks again.

"After reading your explanation, . . . "

Well, the Half Moon - I think/believe - is a graphical attempt to suggest that it can be "depressed" - ENGAGED - and one side/one half is having an Fx applied OR "released" - DISENGAGED - and nothing will be applied! BUT, if you have elected to choose the "ALL" or "Right/Left" option, from the drop down menu, then what you are activating is a choice of having OR not having a selection. You can also "draw" on the preview screen and make your OWN area to have a look see of what an Fx can do to a selected area . . but that is for next week's lesson . .

See? - Luv it!

So, what you are saying, " . . that the Half Moon and the Down Arrow are separate functions." well no, they aren't. They can be separated, as you have found out, but they do rely upon each other for you/me/us to actually work in the way we would expect. NOT doing this - not thinking they aren't dependant on each other . .is the way of MADDDnnessss. .. . arrrgghhhhh ... !

Nurse! Grazie needs his Meds! !! !

.. see?
