FX slowing clips down

I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0 (old I know) and recently every time I added FX to a clip(s), it majorly slows the clip down. When I remove the FX, the clip goes back to moving normally. Why is this happening and just starting to happen now? I did the update for my particular version in hoping that it would fix the issue but it didn't. Any help would be appreciated!

This is most likely an indication that your computer hardware is having trouble doing a "render on the fly" for your effects.

The best solution is to hard render your timeline and see if that changes your playback speed. (You can also try reducing the quality left in your Preview window.)

Wow. Thank you. I actually tried reducing the quality in the Preview window first and that made it work. So I guess I had the quality/size too big for it in the preview window? I sooo appreciate you helping me. I was afraid I'd have to remove it and install it again. I'm glad I didn't.
