FX1 Capturing Problem - D-VHS Check?

Larez wrote on 7/27/2007, 3:05 PM
hello,

i tried for several hours to capture video from my SONY FX1.
first i thought it was a vegas-related problem, but it occurs with every other capturing software.

my os is win xp / sp 2 / ms KB885222 fix

when i put the IEEE 1394 plug into the cam and turn it on, there is no 'ding' 'recognition-sound and there is no auto-pop-up dialog .
simply nothing happens.

connecting my small dv cam works fine (same i-link cable, same firewire card).

capturing hdv worked fine before (the last time was 3 weeks ago) - i really hope there is no hardware-problem with my fx1.

what i'd like to know now:

- how can i check if the correct sony device driver is installed on my system?
- i have no entries with 'sony' in my device manager (audio, video and game controllers); nothing says 'avc / subunit' etc.
- numerous forum threads contain the tip to install d-vhs/dvhs drivers at first. unfortunately i can not find those for download (especially since hdvforever.com seems to be down < was linked many times). other people say they come with sp2 anyways.

any ideas? help is highly appreciated...

thx & regards, larez.

I never had to install anything for my ancient computer to see the fx1 (z1),, before I fried the firewire. Hopefully this is not your case,, have you ever had it connected ,, is it new cam ?
edit,, sorry need to read better,, sounds like you have had it connected ,, not sure how to check it other than plug in to another puter
good luck

Are you trying to capture HDV or DV from the FX1?
Do you have the camera switched to downconvert?

Depending on how you're capturing, for DV use Vegas's external Vidcap. For HDV use Vegas's internal capture.

thank you for your help guys.
tomorrow i will send the cam to sony :(

i hope it won't take forever - i'll keep you up-to-date.

larez

ps: i tried to use the internal capture routine for HDV material.
pps: i never plugged a cable to the switched-on camera. so i guess i did not fry the i-link interface. must be something else.
