The new June issue of Video Systems has a cover story on shooting DV features...in this case mostly Mini-DV is covered. Also there is a good review of VV 4, even if a lot of you don't trust reviews. ;)

Also I relized if you look at the mag online they have past articles - this may be of intrest to all the firewire drive users - More DV NLE Gotchas

Filmy - Thanks for sharing this. The links have gone straight into my favourites!

I especially have taken to heart David Lietner's comments concerning filmaking and inexpensive tools and people thinking they can make movies without talent or gaining "the necessary experience" - oh yes!

Your experience, here on the Forum, is much appreciated by me, thank you,

Grazie

I was rather surprised by the reviewer's comment about A/B editing. He said that Vegas was somewhat annoying because one had to expose the A/B layers in order to do transitions and he felt it was an extra step that shouldn't have to be done. He obviously missed one of Vegas' greatest niceties in that you don't have to worry about A/B layers at all ... just overlap the clips. I guess once someone gets used to doing things the hard way it's difficult to accept something easier. ;)

Not to mention that Mr. McMahon could get something very similar to A-B editing if he just expanded the track layers :)

I think you mis-read something. I just re-read the review 2 times and I can't see where it was mentoined that VV and A/B was annoying. The paragraph in question as near as I can see is:

"The timeline differs slightly from the norm as well. To do a transition, expand any video track and it becomes an A/B track for cross dissolves and effects. You can also link up separate tracks as parents and children for masking and compositing."

I read this as following the overall feeling that the interface of VV was not like other NLE's. Among other thing he points out that "The timeline differs slightly from the norm as well." And explains you can expand any video track for A/B editing. I did not get any vibe about that being 'annoying', but than again maybe I am missing something?
