I saw a Gateway M-6824 notebook for a little over a grand USD at a local store today and boy am I tempted to buy it:

3 GB memory, HDMI output, 1.3 megapixel webcam, 260 GB, T5250 Intel Core 2 Duo, 5400RPM SATA drive, etc. It seems pretty incredible for the price. Anybody have any insight on this notebook or maybe something they think might be a better deal

I have the MT-6821 with a similiar configuration. So far I am quite impressed. But I recommend you find a way to install XP. This requires finding drivers for all your hardware. Gateway will not help you with this. If you are not confident - find some techie to help you. Otherwise you will have a seriously bloated Vista system which I found was eating up 5-10% CPU doing absolutely nothing useful no matter how much I tried to tame it - nasty. But seriously I found it worth the effort.
And jbolley, who responded previously, steered me to the Focusrite Saffire Firewire series audio interface, which is the one card that I could get to work with the Gateway - highly recommended...
thanks jbolley if you are tuned in......
